During a press conference on Sunday, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre called upon Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to transfer killer and serial rapist Paul Bernardo back to a maximum-security penitentiary, over a week after the convict was placed in a medium-security prison in Quebec.

Poilievre claimed that Trudeau has the power to put Bernardo back in a maximum-security penitentiary and bring justice, but all he needs “is the will.”

“He’ll have more freedom, more interaction with other people … possibly even allowed to have visitors … this not only puts other people in danger, but it represents harassment for the family of the victims,” Poilievre said, who appeared alongside three friends of one of Bernardo’s victims.

Bernardo, who Poilievre called “the personification of evil,” was transferred to a medium-security prison in Quebec on May 29.

He has been serving a life sentence for the kidnapping, torture, and killing of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy since 1995. He was also convicted of manslaughter in the death of Tammy Homolka, who died after being drugged and sexually assaulted.

Conservatives will put forward legislation this week that would require all court-ordered dangerous offenders and mass murderers to be permanently assigned a maximum security classification.
