Rishi Sunak has said getting humanitarian aid to those in Gaza is an 'immediate priority' and the UK is in discussions with Egypt on how to provide practical assistance on the ground. The UK prime minister, speaking to reporters after his meeting with Egypt’s president, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, added that the Rafah border crossing should reopen imminently.

He said: 'When this crisis unfolded, one thing we have prioritised consistently is getting the Rafah crossing, opening. It’s been a feature of all my conversations, and I’m very pleased that that will now imminently happen.' The British prime minister also called on the need to 'intensify dialogue, because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability in this region'
