The Chinchilla maternity ward has been on bypass since at least 2017, with women having to travel to Dalby or Toowoomba to give birth.

The town is not alone, with services across the state also closing down in recent years including in Biloela and Gladstone.

The Queensland government will soon host a maternity roundtable to try to come up with some solutions to the issue.
