There has been a spike in requests for dental records by police forces in Ontario, which can help investigators close cold cases by identifying missing persons.

In fact, the number of requests in the province has seen a 380 per cent increase since last July.

Dental fillings, for example, can be more resistant to damage and therefore offer clues to investigators as they work to solve a case.

Nathaniel Dove explains what’s behind the spike in requests and how police are using dental records to identify missing persons.
