Sudan's warring forces have agreed to a declaration of principles that would see a protection of civilians and humanitarian aid, but did not come to an agreement on a new ceasefire, though officials said talks are still ongoing.

Sudanese citizens reacted on Friday to the deal with mixed responses, with some welcoming the deal as a prelude to reinstate security and stability.

"This last agreement, God-willing, will be a good, blessed start and that peace be installed in all the country and on its people," Al-Taj Al-Tayyib said.

But, some were disappointed with the agreement, with one army supporter questioning how the declaration helps the military's dignity.

"There shouldn't be an agreement with a rebellious force against the state," Essam El Din Haroun said.

The agreement came as the United Nations said that about 200,000 people have fled from Sudan to neighbouring countries since the violence erupted last month. Spokesperson Olga Sarrado added that hundreds of thousands have been displaced inside the country, with many also confined to their homes.
