As we head towards a hot summer, it looks like the lights may go out for some of us. The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is predicting rolling blackouts in some parts of the country, because governments have failed to replace ageing coal plants with renewable energy fast enough. It warns that “imminent and urgent investment is needed” to avoid power cuts and price spikes over the next decade.
