Texas gunman accused of killing neighbours found hiding under laundry in nearby city

The Texas gunman who is accused of shooting and killing five of his neighbours after they asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard was arrested on Tuesday night, the San Jacinto County sheriff told reporters, with him being found under laundry in the closet of a home in a city near to the original site of the shooting.

The suspect has been booked, but officials did say fingerprints would be needed to confirm it was Francisco Oropeza who was arrested. If confirmed, he would be charged with first-degree murder.

Sheriff Greg Capers, as he announced the arrest, thanked not only the police officers involved but also people who called in to try and help locate the suspect. He said that the suspect was discovered as a result of a tip called into authorities.

On Wednesday morning, Chief Deputy Sheriff Tim Kean also spoke about the suspect being apprehended, saying there had been multiple people arrested following the manhunt.
