Toronto-area man charged with "aiding suicide" for allegedly selling sodium nitrite

A Mississauga, Ont. man was in court on Wednesday after being charged with counselling or "aiding suicide" by allegedly selling the lethal substance known as sodium nitrite.

Peel Regional Police said they began investigating a sudden death at the end of March which involved a chemical substance. Police said they've linked the 57-year-old man to two deaths in Peel region and are working with provincial, national and international partners.

The arrest came after a Times of London report alleging the man sold a lethal substance to those at risk of self harm in the U.K.
