The chancellor Jeremy Hunt has appeared to play down this morning's GDP news, saying that the government 'always expected the growth would be weaker' while they prioritise tackling inflation.

Interest rates are due to fall to 2% "within the next few months" which would allow space for potential tax cuts, the chancellor says.
