Experts are warning of a security and human rights crisis in Haiti because gang violence is spiraling out of control. Now, the United Nations Security Council has voted to send in multi-national troops led by Kenya to restore stability in Haiti.

More than 2,000 people been killed in unrest already this year. Another 200,000 have been displaced from their homes. Haiti asked for help a year ago, but the UN and US were not willing to step in. Then in July, Kenya offered to spearhead an international mission with 1,000 peacekeepers and send 1,000 personnel to support Haiti’s security forces. They’ll be trying to tackle a complex crisis without much support from the local population.
