Virginia house explosion: Fiery blast engulfs home as police try to serve search warrant

A massive explosion erupted in Arlington, Va. on Monday evening after a suspect “discharged a flare gun approximately 30-40 times” from within their home, according to a local police report.

The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) was attempting to execute a search warrant, demanding the suspect come out with their hands up just moments before the explosion.

Alex Wilson, a local resident, captured close-up footage of the scene with a video camera before and after flames engulfed the home.

In an update from the ACPD, approximately 90 minutes after the incident — as emergency services worked to extinguish the fire — “minor injuries” were reported among three officers on the scene.

In a statement issued Tuesday morning, ACPD said the investigation into the circumstances of the explosion are ongoing.
