"We came to find death": Gaza residents share stories of loss as Israel strikes back against Hamas

A nurse in Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza city seemed distraught after she found out her husband was among the deceased, amid fierce Israeli airstrikes on the enclave.

The moment Zeinab discovered her husband was killed, she started screaming in the hospital "my husband has been martyred, people!” as she walked to break the news to her daughter, who cried and hugged her mother.

Meanwhile Samah Abo Latifa fled her house in the Abasan area of Gaza to Khan Younis, hoping to find safety. Instead, she lost her brother and two more family members in an Israeli airstrike.

“We had fled from Abasan (area), escaping from death, there were continuous airstrikes over our heads, they told us to come to Khan Younis, we came to find death,” Abo Latifa said. “If we stayed in our houses we die, if we go on streets we die,” she added.
