On the road into the tiny western Queensland town of Windorah, five striking solar dishes loom overhead like giant metal sunflowers.

The $4.5 million solar farm was hailed as the future of outback energy when it opened in 2009, but many panels are now broken-down.

The 14.5-metre-tall structures are finally being torn down to make way for another solar farm, but the project has run into difficulty sourcing parts and labour for the renewable energy project.
