Russian President Vladimir Putin won a fixed re-election with 87.28 per cent of the vote, the highest ever result in Russia's post-Soviet history, according to an exit poll by pollster the Public Opinion Foundation.
However, the European Union's foreign policy chief has criticized the election for taking place in a restricted environment and not being "free and fair."
Meanwhile, China has congratulated Putin and stated that the strategic relationship between the two countries will continue to strengthen.
The election has also raised concerns among residents in Kyiv, who fear a possible escalation of attacks and attempts to capture more territory in Ukraine.
"He has to be stopped. If not, things will get worse," a Kyiv resident said.
