G7 Leaders Summit: Biden meets with Zelenskyy, announces $375M military aid package for Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, at the final day of the Annual G7 Summit, in Hiroshima, Japan. During the meeting, Biden announced a new $375M military aid package for Ukraine and touched upon the U.S. military’s commitment to providing warplane training and F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine’s military, amid their ongoing war with Russia.

As well as the newly announced military package to help strengthen Ukraine’s military forces, Zelenskyy thanked Biden for his “help, leadership and support,” adding that “We’re thankful to American people.”

Upon being asked if Canada would also help train Ukrainian pilots, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the country is “not opposed,” and on top of their “broad range” of ongoing military training offerings, is “always looking to do more” for the nation.
