On-Board with Guy Cosmo: 2016 Porsche 991.1 GT3R - Sebring International Raceway

Take a lap with me around Sebring International Raceway in this 2016 Porsche 991.1 GT3R with RBN Motorsports.

I chose to share this video today for a few reasons;

1- The Porsche GT3R is an absolute screamer. This car, by nature, is what I like to call 'an angry beast'. It screams, its throttle response is SUPER AGGRESSIVE and the entire driving experience is just HAIR-ON-FIRE. I LOVE this car. The 2016 GT3 era was still the early days of GT3's, so they did not have very much aerodynamic capability or efficiency and mechanical grip was good, but nothing like the modern GT3 cars.

2- This day was from January of 2022, which was a rare, COLD day at Sebring without a cloud in the sky, so the conditions were really cracking.

3- Also about that day was a collaboration with renowned race engineer and Porsche expert Owen Hayes - RBN's first interaction with a top-level engineer, and of all the times we've operated this car, this day was our fastest by far. In fact, if you look at the GTD & GTD Pro qualifying times from the 2022 IMSA Sebring 12 Hour which took place 2 months later, pole time was a 1:59.7... in this lap I turned a 2:00.09 - just 3 tenths off of the overall GT pole in a 6 year old car, not set up for Pro racing (with a passenger seat in it!) that was at least 2 generations of GT3 old. Granted, the conditions were really good on this day (though the track certainly not rubbered in), I was still pleased with the performance.

4- Sebring has now been my 'home' track since I moved down to Florida many years ago. It holds a special place in my heart!

To note, the CAN bus interface for the VBOX is a bit choppy but we have since fixed that - so keep in mind the throttle and brake indicators are a little behind and extremely granular.
